Psalm 46:10 is a beloved verse. The words are emblazoned on merchandise of all sorts, from coffee mugs to calendars. Thousands of images have been created and posted online with this verse.

Or has it? Actually, what most of us know about Psalm 46:10 is actually Psalm 46:10a. There’s also a Psalm 46:10b. And a Psalm 46:10c! As personally comforting and challenging as this call to stillness and knowing can be, it is even more so when we look at the whole verse in the context of the whole Psalm.

This morning Psalm 46 offers us so much that is solid and hopeful in our world that right now is filled with so much of the opposite.
