“God is love”. This truth is one of the most profound, inexhaustible descriptions of who God is in all of Scripture. God is love and he loves us with an everlasting, perfect love. Therefore, the measure of our fellowship with him, the truest sign that we are abiding in Christ, is that we love one another. The Spirit moved John to tell us exactly what this love entails: God loved us before we loved him and sent his son as the sacrifice for our sins. We love because he first loved us and we can love in a “go first”, self-sacrificing, debt paying way. THIS is love!
